I am writing this letter in English, because I don’t speak Italian…
On 17 november 2009 I was called to the police station in Montreuil (nom de ville), France regarding two fines for incidents that would have happened in Pisa Italy in july 2008. The reason of the fines both of 115 euro are for ‘driving in an area of regulated circulation...
I do not remember having trespassed any rules or having seen any signposts indicating I could not drive there, and I wonder ‘Are these signposts in Italian?’
In that case I wish to ask you to excuse me from paying this fine as I was not aware at all of this rule, otherwise – of course – I would never have driven there.
Another point for my asking to be excused is that both incidents happened within the same hour (one at 21:21 and one at 22:00 hours) which also shows that I was simply not aware of driving in a prohibited zone.
I am just a tourist visiting your city and not knowing the local regulations or signs in italian I can in no way be held responsible for any trespassing. let alone two fines within the same hour!
It already cost me one day of my work, because I had to physically come to the police station in France, so unless I will receive a reply with an explanation and prove that the signposts where there at the given dates in a from that corresponds to international sign-rules within the next two weeks I will consider that the fines have been cancelled.
Thank you for your understanding.
The licence plate is (numero d'immatriculation) and the fines are:
